PCB Power Transformers Pty Ltd (Formally PCB Components cc) was started in 1989 by Ms Desiree Richards.
Initially the company operated from a rented office and dealt in the buying & selling of transformers with the only employee being a driver.
Subsequently a production line was started to manufacture Distribution Boards for the swimming pool industry.

From there PCB started on a path of acquisitions & expansion:

  • 1996 The company started in-house transformer production with the acquisition of the staff & equipment from B J Emslie Transformers.
  • 1999 The current factory in Industria (3000m2) was bought as well as the staff & equipment from Harper Electrical. The company now employed approximately 100 factory & office staff.
  • 2001 Transcoil cc was incorporated into PCB further broadening the customer base and expertise.
  • 2002 A further 400m2 of factory space was constructed specifically to house the Lighting Products division. At the same time space was freed to expand the metal shop into a fully self contained fabrication facility for complete in-house manufacture of tanks & enclosures.
  • 2004 PCB was given the SANS 780 mark for Distribution Transformers and a new division was created.
  • 2006 Tridonic’s local manufacturing facility (Chokes & Transformers) from Cape Town was acquired to complement the existing Lighting Products division.
  • 2007 PCB's complete operation was acredited with ISO 9001:2000
  • 2009 A Distribution office is opened in Cape Town as PCB celebrates 20 yrs in the transformer industry.

Today PCB Power Transformers covers the full spectrum of transformer design & manufacture from 1va to 1600kva - single or three phase - air & oil cooled, as well as Current transformers, Air & Iron cored chokes, Lighting chokes & ballasts and almost any device with windings and laminations.
